In my opinion, the original (Myst Masterpiece) graphics grant a certain something to the atmosphere that doesn't translate to realistic remakes, + the puzzles were designed for fixed screens. It may be a bit off-putting initially to go from a VR experience to the next game which is still in the format of a glorified PowerPoint presentation, but it's still a great continuation of the experience. If you enjoy it and want to play the sequels, buy the bundle. My personal opinion is that Myst, regardless of format, is worth the $30 and more. My recommendation? If you want the immersion of Native VR, buy the new version. It would be more disheartening for me to find out that my nitpicking prevented the possibility of someone finding the same enjoyment in the series I and others of us had.ĭon't sweat the format. I would wholeheartedly prefer that you experience the majesty that is Myst for yourself than for your experience to be ruined because the format is not compatible with your preferences and playstyle. I'm someone who, given the choice, will take story, character, and atmosphere over graphics, but fully appreciate that there are others who feel differently. I'm honestly more impressed that it's still got any traction after two months. U/Alas-I-Cannot-Swim: eh.I stand by my Steam review, but I really do come off as an old fart in it. If they're all good, should I just buy this bundle for $16 that has literally every game? But it doesn't have the 2021 remake, so I'd have to buy that separate if I want native VR.Īm I horribly overthinking this? Severe choice paralysis, here. I don't mind the step back in quality I play older games all the time. realMYST: Masterpiece Edition is currently on sale for just over $7, and the "non-real" Myst: Masterpiece Edition is on sale for $4!įinally, are the sequels good? Should I play all of them if I end up liking MYST? (Which I'm sure I will it's my type of game). But it costs $40, and the 2021 remake supports VR natively at $30.īut then again, the 2021 remake is still full-price at $30. It sounds like realMYST: Masterpiece Edition has VorpX support, which is a paid software that lets you play non-VR games in VR. Is there any validity to that review, or is it way too nitpicky?īut also, I want to play in VR if I can. The 2021 remake seems like the safest bet, right, since it's got positive reviews? But I've heard some long-time fans say it changes some things that takes the magic away a bit. I'm so sorry, because I'm sure this question gets asked every day, but jeez.
